Step 3: Customizing Boomerang for iOS

Now that you've installed Boomerang and added your accounts, let's go over how to customize Boomerang for iOS so that it fits seamlessly into your workflow. There are settings for both the entire iOS app and for each specific account you've got added. Your settings for Gmail accounts will look different than your settings for Outlook accounts.

Boomerang for iOS settings

These settings work across all accounts you've added to our iOS app

  • Auto-advance: After taking an action on an email you have open, you can decide whether you want to be automatically directed to the next oldest email or thread, the next newest email or thread, or back to the Inbox.
  • Right swipe: Regardless of what action you take the most on emails, you can customize your right swipe to Archive, Toggle Read/Unread status, Schedule a Boomerang/Remind Me, Move the email into a different label or folder, or Delete the email.
  • Left swipe: The left swipe gets you access to all of the above options (Archive, Read/Unread, Boomerang, Move, or Delete) in either a quick radial swipe to choose the option in one swipe or a linear swipe to reveal the options you may want to take on the email and then choose the right one.
  • Voice Assistant: Toggle text-to-speech for Boomerang's Voice Assistant
  • Default browser: Choose between Safari, Chrome or Firefox for loading web pages.
  • Unified Inbox: Enable the unified Inbox view to see all your accounts' Inboxes at once. Then set your theme so you can easily distinguish between the different accounts as needed.

Gmail account settings

Some of these settings are specific to Gmail/Google Workspace accounts. You can customize them for each Gmail account by tapping on the corresponding account under Account Settings:

  • [Animal] Icon: If you'd prefer something other than the animal icon we've got by default, feel free to customize the image by tapping on the camera! You can change to a photo or a different animal.
  • Name: The name that displays to recipients when you send emails via our iOS app.
  • Mobile signature: You can edit the signature on your emails sent via our iOS app here. If you've already got one set up in your Gmail account, you can also download your signature right to our iOS app.
  • Send from addresses: If you're using any aliases, you can download the ones you've got on your Google account and set a default from here.
  • Theme: To help differentiate between different email accounts, feel free to choose a punny theme that fits the account! The above is an example of "Unred" for Gmail accounts.
  • Display labels in thread: With this enabled, you'll be able to see all the labels for your emails/threads when opened.
  • Display unread view: Enable this for an unread view to appear as an option for your Inbox.
  • Display Gmail categories: If you love your Primary, Promotions, and Social categories on your computer, you can also have them right in our iOS app too by enabling this setting.
  • Display external images: To help prevent their opens from being tracked, some users like to disable the loading of images. That allows you to open emails without the tracking pixel images being loaded, which is how some softwares track opens.
  • Conversation view: If you'd prefer to have your emails threaded into a neat conversation, you can keep conversation view enabled. If not, feel free to disable it so you're able to see each email in the conversation right from the message view.
  • Default send behavior: If you're an archiver, you can change the default send behavior to Send + Archive. You can always send regularly by long-pressing if needed!
  • Boomerang settings: These options customize how you want your emails to return to your Inbox when you use our Boomerang/Remind Me/Snooze feature.
  • Calendar settings: This adjusts which calendars are checked for our Brief Me feature, which gives you a quick overview of the most actionable items on your to-do list.

Outlook account settings

Some of these settings are specific to Outlook/Exchange Online/Office365 accounts. You can customize them for each Outlook account by tapping on the corresponding account under Account Settings:

  • [Animal] Icon: If you'd prefer something other than the animal icon we've got by default, feel free to customize the image by tapping on the camera! You can change to a photo or a different animal.
  • Name: The name that displays to recipients when you send emails via our iOS app.
  • Mobile signature: You can edit the signature on your emails sent via our iOS app here.
  • Archive folder: You can set up which folder emails go to when archived so you can access them when needed.
  • Theme: To help differentiate between different email accounts, feel free to choose a punny theme that fits the account! The above is an example of "Bluemerang" for Outlook accounts.
  • Display labels in thread: With this enabled, you'll be able to see all the labels for your emails/threads when opened.
  • Display unread view: Enable this for an unread view to appear as an option for your Inbox.
  • Display Focused Inbox: If you love your Focused Inbox on your computer, you can also have it right in our iOS app too by enabling this setting.
